One Fish, Two
Fish
This is the second project that I assisted
Nina Solomon with. This is a Tempe Art in Private Development project,
located at 7303 S Kyrene Rd, Tempe, AZ. (Any building in Tempe over a
certain size must have a public art component.) The builder was
interested in water-themed art on the 435 foot retaining wall in front
of the building. To work with a limited budget, we created a tile
stream that appears and disappears in various ways along the wall.
Ready-made tiles were used on low relief architectural elements we
created. They contrast with the hand-made tiles that represent an
organic stream of water. Red fish, splashes, and ceramic pipe were
added as playful elements. The images show three of the five sections
that encompass the entire project.
